Collection featuring SCIENCE AND MEDICINE IN CUBA with an emphasis on Clara Maas and Dr. Carlos Finlay. Dozens of stamps, blocks, covers, and related text tell the story of their efforts to understand the cause of yellow fever. Finlay correctly theorized that the disease was transmitted by mosquito bites. Maas intentionally became infected to better understand the disease’s symptoms but subsequently died. This lot comprises a fascinating and unique offering.
